Mr Sydney,
It is my understanding that at Rosemeadow the group will be going to the same part. However, the field trip coordinator has indicated that there will be a competition organised to find hidden marbles in return for a nice prize.
The organisers have spread out the field days as best as they can. Property owners only give permission for field days to occur on certain days at certain times. Due to this the field trips have been organised when it is suitable for the owners to have them.
I hope that answers your question.
Regards
Navanka

Thanks Navanka,

Given you are taking over so you know even the most experience fossickers only found a few tiny specks at that location last year.  So while marbles will be hidden for prizes I haven't travelled 700km to do that - I'd be better off spending the day at a free reserve like Wellingrove.  In fact when you realise you need to do things like planting marbles for extra prizes it says it all!

I realise that things have obviously happened this year but just very disappointing for such a great event.

Just to make it clear I'm not trying to be offensive in any way but just provide clear feedback for next year.

As per an earlier thread it would be good to see the sapphire trips across different days rather than on the same day.

I certainly know that organising field trips is bloody hard (a lot harder than many would realise), but I kind of have to agree with this.

It really cannot be pitched as a fossicking trip if you are expecting that no one will find anything beyond a planted marble for a prize.

No problems to have that as an outing on the progream but it needs to be clearly described as a different experience - ie. a treasure-hunting trip rather than the more genuine fossicking that people would be travelling here to experience.

It does not mention about this on the trip description on the program and I would hate for visitors to sign up to this one and then feel a bit deceived.

Fossicking is not a guarantee - it never has been and experienced fossickers should know this - but this precedent worries me a bit.

Again, like MrSydney, I dont mean this to be just a negative whinge as I know organising these trips is really difficult.  But you may need to consider how this will be received by the punters.

On another note, I did hear from a visitor the other day that Tingha Sands would be closing soon so here is another location soon to be removed from the list.  If you have not visited this one yet and would like to, perhaps the Minerama field trip might be worth considering.

Cheers
Leah

Have they run out of economical road base material?

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

The only thing I know is that a customer visited there a few days ago and heard that the business had been taken over by the previous operators family (son and his wife I think) and the new operators were not keen to have fossickers visiting (due to the risk of accidents).

Others may know more.

cheers

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your feedback about the Rosemeadow field trip. I have discussed this with the Field Trip Coordinator Peter and we will take your concerns to the meeting next week. At this stage the committee might look at cancelling the trip, however there is not another one to replace it.

On another note the field trip to Glen Elgin is new and is not an area that has been touched before, I understand you're after sapphires not gold but if you're interested it will be a great day.

Thanks

Navanka

Still best to sleep at night - harder to see the right stones but also leeches etc at night!  Can't waste those daylight hours!
