Cuttle fish bone
« on: May 31, 2019, 10:55:33 AM »
Hi all, I am trying to buy some large cuttle fish bone for moulding silver and gold, would anybody know where I could purchase this  product, it would have to be about 1.5 to 2cm thick.

Would pet shops be worth a try? Since they're often used for birds to grind their beaks or something.
Though 2cm thick might be asking a bit much, I don't know if I saw any that thick when I used to pick em up off the beach as a kid.

Thanks Ghost who walks, I have tried my local pet shop, and yes your right it is a bit thicker than the usual pet variety, but I have purchased the larger ones before, but the fella I use to buy them off has gone to that great fossicking field in the sky.  Anyhow Ill keep trying. beers

Depending where you are, go for some beach walks and collect your own. Must be piles of it in South Australia. We get it on Tassie beaches aswell.

being soft easy to work why not just put 2 pieces together to get the thickness required?
