Derelict Mines Program NSW
« on: March 29, 2016, 08:29:17 AM »
Slowly old mine sites are being filled in and rehabilitated.
This usually means the loss of dumps for fossicking.

Some areas about to be worked on include Tingha and Emmaville including Y Waters.

The following site link has the information on work to be done
http://www.resourcesandenergy.nsw.gov.au/miners-and-explorers/programs-and-initiatives/derelict
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

Maybe John aka Findem can tell us more but as far as I am aware Y Waters hasnt been visited for at least 9 years so cannot understand why that would need rehabilitation / destroyed.
As for Webbs Consul, does this destruction mean they wont mine it? Given that it is the " Highest grade undeveloped silver project in Australia, with a JORC compliant resource of over 12Moz of silver." it does seem suicidal to even consider stopping mining there. >:( >:(

The one place desperately needing "rehabilitated" is the Woodsreef Asbestos mine at Baraba. In order to seal that site off totally was in the billions of $$ so I cannot see how any other sites could be destroyed while that was still active.
Is this just a matter of Green policy outweighing historical & tourism values?

If you look through the listings they are still working on rehabilitating Woodsreef.
Y Waters may be at the request of the land owner?

There was talk of a company mining it for the magnesium and rehabilitate the area in the process.
Also that was denied because of fears of disturbing the asbestos further.

Bob, it sounds like you are thinking of Webb's Silver Mine rather than Webb's Consols. I haven't been there but I know there was quite a bit of "rehabilitation" there a few years ago.
As for Y WaterHoles, I hope they don't plan on draining the ponds with their wildlife habitat.

True John but I thought it was all the same mining company that owned the entire lot. Isn't Webbs Console along Strathbogie Rd on the way to Inverell? There was a trip there about 8 yrs ago that may have been run by Gemfest. Hmmm maybe I am wrong again LOL http://johnsnewenglandminerals.blogspot.com.au/2014/09/webbs-silver-mine-near-emmaville-nsw_7.html
Surely even the Govt wouldn't allow Y Waterholes to be drained. The Greenies would have kittens if they did that. There used to be a sapphire mine to the west of Emmaville Rd if the GPS fix is correct. Not sure why that would need rehab as its on private land & no real chance of anyone being hurt unless trespassing.
