Keep your bright lights and stick a couple of sheets of white A4 paper over them. Just nice white paper not with slight blue tinge I have seen some. I have also seen used layers of baking paper or white fabric. You can also use sheets of paper to reflect light but I don't do this anymore. It is certainly a process trying to figure it out, I am slowly improving. A good tripod also helps, my last one was wobbly and a pain. I am now setup with the camera connected to an old laptop to remote capture.

Thanks MB, I'll try again when I'm in the mood  again, spent ages on it to day.

Cheers

PS I have cut a lot of stones out of your book now, they all have plenty of sparkle. I have only been cutting a bit over 12 months now, so still only a beginner. Cheers again.

I'm glad your enjoying the designs :)
I also find if you find the right room in the house that is lit with diffuse light in the afternoon. Say north facing windows when the sun is in the west can be good for photos without any lights. A a couple of sheets of paper folded in half stood at right angles around the stone can work. Natural light is nicer as well. Then there is photographing topaz which I'm struggling with, try to get that really nice bright topaz reflection.
