Gday
« on: June 28, 2020, 11:01:29 AM »
I thought I’d make an introduction before going too far.

My partner and I are new to fossicking but are hooked. We have always done a lot of camping and 4wding among other outdoors hobbies but we have started leaning towards going on trips with a bit of a goal in mind, so we watched some YouTube videos on local areas and saw a video on the nundle “diamonds”. We made a last minute decision to go for a look with the kids and had a great time.

We are now starting to try our hand at looking for gems with a bit of colour. Went to nundle again yesterday for a look around and after getting chased out of the state forrest(still unsure how much menace was involved or if it came across wrong), we looked at a spot on peel river. Using my flash Bunnings sieve I had no luck while the Mrs cooked a feed. And then I saw something! A light brown almost square see through something. I’m not sure if it’s actually a gem or a piece of broken beer bottle but the heart rate went up a little regardless.

We are all now completely hooked and have started planning more outings and looking into better gear.

Also I’m in the hunter valley area, just outside Muswellbrook. If anyone’s in the area and needs anything feel free to sing out.

Cheers,
Josh

Welcome to ALF Kickingrocks :)   Why and who chased you out of the SF?If the area is not being logged and you have your SF fossicking permit you should be OK.
Could be you got close to someones crop.
Google Nundle fossicking for 2 Facebook groups

It was by someone partaking in a legal activity that is also allowed in state forrests but they were out of line. I was told it would be advisable to leave and they were running everyone out. They weren’t locals by the looks of them.

I’m not a part of Facebook so I miss out on the groups. I’m still pretty green to it all but I am definitely keen to learn.

Never run across that problem before.  Sorry for your bad experience.

So they were possibly cranky mushroom pickers or picnickers or gold detectors.

Could be hunters if so the area would have signs up warning other forest users to keep clear.

Pity there were no SF rangers around to report them to.  :(

Seems the police caught some unlicensed trail bike riders and unregistered shooters in the forest back then

Gday starsapphire, good to hear there are others with our interest in the area!

Unlicensed shooters are quite bad up there and around home, good to see the police can get a few.

We went back up that way today in the miserable weather and finally found some zircon(at least I think it is). Couldn’t be happier at the moment.
