Gemmasta hand piece errors
« on: April 05, 2021, 07:24:18 PM »
I've got inconsistent rotation errors(small most people wouldn't notice them) occurring on my GF4. After testing I am convinced it is being caused by the three bearing balls in the hand piece. Does anyone know what size they? Maybe they have gone out of round, I've always kept it well lubed.
Perhaps I am better off trying to find a Hall Extra is forsale ?  I really would like decent bearings the handpiece and looks a bit hard to modify the gemmasta and still be able to change the index wheel.

I think when I replaced some in a couple of club handpieces I got them from a bike shop, I can't remember what size they were but were easy to source. It's not the springs is it, I had to do a couple of those at various times too, just corroded and broken. It was actually the broken spring that was kicking the handpiece to one side.

Thanks Rusted. I haven't pulled it to bits yet but will soon to check spring and bearings. It only does it at steep angles(that is when I notice it), like 70-90 degrees range. Perhaps it is something to do with the springs being compressed slightly depending on how many are taking the load. Shallow angles no problem, was cutting 9 degree facets perfectly today.
