Yep Port Germaine in SA old sailing ships used it as ballast and tossed it over board to pick up sandal wood.

So, would it technically be Australian flint as per O.P., or would it have come from England?

Lol.
I looked up Baltic Flint, came across a funny quote below from flintsource.net http://www.flintsource.net/flint/infD_baltic.html:

Quote
Baltic Flint constitutes a flintsourcerers nightmare. It is something like having your place invaded by a horde of barbarians who smash up the cabinet with your reference collection, rip open the bags, empty the boxes and scatter the contents all over the floor. Then they start stamping on the stones, crushing most of the larger specimens. And after you have cleaned up the mess a bit, they come back and do it again.

The 'barbarians' are actually references to glacial cycles of the Pleistocene in northern Europe transporting and working the flint material as it moves slowly southwards.

I gave some ribbon stone to a flint knapper, to make a knife, he was excited, reckoned it was the hardest and best material he had ever worked with.  He had used agate, chert, flint and obsidian.
I have the knappers used in the process as well:

You can get flint in the limestone from around Mt Gambier. Also along the coast below Mt Gambier there are large deposits of it along the sea shore, washed out of the limestone obviously and piled up into low mounds, I think where I saw it was around Kingston.
