Back from Agate Ck
« on: June 16, 2021, 08:23:56 PM »
Well I am back from Agate Ck after a years break because of border closures.Seems I can only be away fossicking for 5 weeks before the urge to head home hits.

Round trip this time was 7 weeks. Had to wait while a heavily rolled ankle to go down. There are no tracks left into Big Simpson so be careful.  ::)
All up a good trip and caught up with a lot of fellow fossickers ;) and there were agates to be spotted or dug even after all the people who came as early as Easter.Good finds by fellow campers and good 4 o clock get togethers.

Tired after 5 days of driving.  More in a weeks time.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

Been going to Agate Ck on and off over 21 years. Feel shattered after unpacking my sacks of stones.  :'( Found a large complete agate about 15 cm by 10 cm by 10 cm after a long search of the creek and prying it out of the rocky bottom. Was totally amazed as had never found one so large and complete, it was a once in a life time find.
Got home and unpacked my trailer.  Seems one day while I was out fossicking the sack that this agate was in was pinched from under my awning.
Never noticed as other sacks were still there.   >:(
In future trips am locking any finds in my trailer as you do not know who might wander through the camp area when everyone is out.
Totally pissed off.

it seems these sort of things happen a lot may be you showed the wrong person the agate

Only showed it to a couple of mates quietly. It would not have been them.

A  number of 'newbies' and visitors have been driving in and out of the camp ground over the weeks I was there.

How disappointing to read about your misfortune. What a delight it would have been to find such a rare treasure. I hope karma bights the perps in the bum and you find two next time!  :(

I'm still amazed when I hear about people stealing stuff like this!

I guess particularly with somewhere like agate creek the agate actually has quite a bit of value.  Still - very sad!

That said - great to hear you are out and about again and looking forward to some picks of what you did find!

That is disappointing to hear Jerry. Some people have no conscience.

That is a bugger Jerry. I had all my open bags lined up along the side outside my annex, it was just a convenient spot to put them, but then a new mob moved in and I noticed them eyeing them so I shifted them all around the other side. Yours must have gone during the night, Kev's wife was always sitting out near the fire at any other time.

I found that old thunderegg claim, it's not worth the trouble, a hell of a long difficult walk for identical stuff to what I got from the bird bath spot.

I had a quick trip home, it rained from Cunnamulla all the way through NSW, mud everywhere so not much chance to get off the road so we just kept driving, stopped at Hillston then home in 5 hours from there.
The outback must be full by now, there were long long lines of caravans heading up the road, every rest area was full, caravan parks all booked out.

Glad you got home OK Rusted.  :) Just glad I only lost one sack, pity it had the best agate in it.  :(
Did not stop any where to fossick on way home as it showered two of the nights heading back.  Had to leave fletchers Ck camp a % am because I was camped on black soil.Dawsons Ck was wetter but I had a high spot.  Avoided the Moree and Dubbo because of the virus and left the motel in Bathurst as lat as possible as it was below zero during the night
