Diamond Polishing Grit
« on: December 22, 2008, 02:33:29 PM »
I was told a tip from my workmate (partner in crime) who I found out is a top faceter who use to be a cutter on the central qld gemfields. He mixes his diamond grit 50,000 - 100,000 with umm KY Jelly. I am yet to try it as I haven't purchased any as yet  :-[  He said it works great. I think he said he drips water on the lap as KY being a lubricant stays on the lap for quite a while.
Anyway I hope this is of help to someone other then myself.
Ron and I have an Appointment to do some Laps ;) ;D

 Hi all,
Yes another great tip, works well but always be careful to keep differnt grits well seperated as contamination can causes heartache.
If you are polishing with both #50,000 and at times #100,000 Diamond have seperated Laps marked on the edge for these Grits. If really careful some use both sides of the "Batt" Lap one for each polish or you can use Dia one side Linde A the other, some even cut with#3,000 one side and Polish with #50,000 the other, just have to be extra careful not to mix grits.
 Keep those ideas coming beers
Cheers Andrew
