LEVEL GIRDLE ISSUE
« on: September 07, 2021, 12:46:56 PM »
Hi all. I have a Halls MK3 machine and seem to have trouble when time to level my crown girdle.
i have to cheat heaps to get it level before taking it down to my girdle thickness.
Anyone got some ideas why its so far out all the time?

Hello Glen,
An out of alignment transfer is the main cause of this.
Solutions
-Zero your cheater fine adjustment. Cut a square at 90degrees and see if it transfers perfectly, if not adjust your fine adjustment and note the zero point. Half the amount you adjusted.
-You can polish your girdle after transferring that way you will notice if the transfer has caused misalignment.
-I recommend using a transfer block as this bi-passes some machine inaccuracy.
-Check the groves on your transfer jig are clean and no lumps of glue etc.
-Put your dop against a straight edge and see if straight.
Cheers

I have a Hall's MK3 was having the same issue until i worked out it was my transfer jig, it is out big time I mean by almost one full turn on the cheater.
I found which one of the two adapters was out put a smaller pin and used an .008 shim to rotate the alignment pin around, this got it very close with a bit of fine adjustment. Until in the middle of a job the little pin broke and shim fell out, so put it back with the original pin. I know how far it's out so work with that now. Or cut a witness mark, all my crown girdles are good now.

So for now just working around it. I like Makky's idea. maybe one day will look at that.

Cheers
