polishing slabs with crystal voids
« on: October 30, 2021, 10:32:26 PM »
Does anyone have a solution of how to protect crystals in a void will polishing the rest of the rock.I had thought of bluetack but it can be hard to remove without breaking some of the crystals. The same goes with a silicone compound. Not sure about hot faceting wax or a hot glue gun.Any thoughts. Thanks

I assume your trying to stop oxide polishes getting into the crystal. I have heard of soap being used, but I think using expandable drums or diamond soft wheels is the best option. I have soft wheels up to 14k.

Are you talking about tumbling or cabbing?

Orange oil is good for getting blue tac off walls so soaking would probably work for a stone.

Two part epoxy eventually softens to snot with a good soak in Acetone.

Even cement might work, dissolve with acid.
