(1/1)
Alexandorito:
Hey everyone just joined i found a gemstone recently that a geoligist pointed in the direction of gemstone metiorite ( fingers crossed but TIN ore is more likely i dont want to get my hopes up jist from one geoligist. i need a possible sample taken or even just a gem specialist to make sure its not tin ore, diamond, purple gemstone ect. The crystal is like tin ore matrix but formed so different at the same time and my stone is part purple
It regestered as diamond or the highest arc idk haha on a modern jewlers tester. Would love to hopfully have fossicked myself anything not tin ore but well its still a goergeous stone. Tbanks Alex my email is open feel free to contact anytime im located newcastle.
MrSydney:
You really should just contact the Newcastle Lapidary club and get someone to help you with an SG test, or if on matrix perhaps a hardness test (eg if sapphire scratches it then it is definitely not a diamond which I assume is your first interest).
Bucket:
I think your best bet is to take it to a gemologist if you want a positive ID. They will check specific gravity, refractive index and other tests, including hardness. Not all jewellers are gemologists so check and make sure. The test will incur a charge, most likely, but if you want a positive ID that's what I'd be doing. I've seen those diamond testers give false positives on several occasions so I have little trust in them.
Steveb:
Tin ore or diamond? Easy to test diamond, can’t be scratched by anything except another diamond. I’ll say its Cassiterite.
