CQ Gemfields
« on: August 08, 2022, 05:43:54 AM »
Gday all!

Im very new but already have the bug... I'm looking to join up with likewise enthusiasts to dig big holes in the GPAs around the CQ Gemfields.

I've got my son, 7 years old who is in tow and would love company of other kids. I'm only 90 minutes drive away but for the most part I'm interested in camping there during school holidays

I've visited tomahawk creek a few times and already have a ute load of hand fashioned equipment.

Hit me up for a chat!

Chriso

Hey Chriso!Welcome to ALF!  :D
oh how awesome your son is going to be involved. While my lot didn't do the digging side of things, they absolutely loved the shaping of gems as part of their Home ed. I know insurance wise, there seems to be an age limit for working machinery at clubs but they're welcome on digs under your supervision. Have you thought about joining a local club just for the fossick days? I'm sure you'd be able to meet up with other like minded folk and their kids that way as well.
I know the guys in here are all too happy to catch up when out and about if they're in the area.
Keep em comin!!!

I wasnt aware there were clubs. If you have any facebook or contact details that would be great!

The little fella aint ready for machines or even a shovel yet. He mostly tells we where to dig, suggests its time to light the campfire and eats every 30 minutes  ;D

Queensland Lapidary and Allied Craft Clubs Association Incorporated (QLACCA) quite a few club web pages linked here
and
Queensland Gem Clubs Association Incorporated

CQ Queensland, there are a number of fossicking groups on Facebook,  they are Australian Lapidary Group, Northern NSW Fossicking, Australian Fossicking Guild, Australian Rockhounds, Australian Lapidary Group and QLD  NSW Fossicking.  I've got a lot of information from each of them. But have found Northern NSW Fossicking and the QLD NSW Fossicking groups have plenty of information, depends on what you are looking for.  Good luck and hope this information is useful  beers
