What do you think this is?
« on: September 05, 2022, 10:51:21 PM »
Good day everyone.
I was given this 25kg stone and was told it came from South Australia. Could anyone let me know what you think it is thanks?

It could be Aventurine. Wild guess though.

Some of the rough stones at Cowell Jade factory look very similar, his shop was shut when i went through Cowell last month though.

Whatever it is, it certainly looks good, need a decent size saw to slice that one.

Chookie2, if you're living in the Perth area, the Lapidary Club of W.A. in Riverdale has great facilities and seem a friendly group. I went to a show (pre Covid) that was held in their clubrooms, very impressive and looks like they have an active group that conduct field trips.

Do a hardness test to help narrow it down. Visually it looked like fluorite to me, though aventurine also a distinct possibility ... a hardness test will rule a lot of things in or out ...
