Showing off a recently cut Andrew Brown Faceting Design frosted cut in Gladstone Tasmanian smoky quartz. 16.5mm diameter, 14.4ct. See Book 4 : https://facetingdesigns.com/book4/
First time I have tried a frosted cut, it was fun - something different, I think a slightly more saturated stone would have accentuated the frosting a little more - just a little more smokiness, but very happy with the final result.
Can you see the (slightly) hidden plant leaf?

Has anyone out there cut designs with frosted facets? Be interested to hear about your experiences and any advice etc.
I like the fact that frosted designs also give you the ability to create pictures with your faceting. I have some large opaque black spinels that I intend to cut a crown only, with a frosted design - will leave the pavilion flat to aid in stone setting.
I am looking at cutting "Butterfly Effect" next from the same Volume in slightly darker smoky quartz. Frosted deigns might be a good way of using up my clear but darker rough.

Butterfly effect is cut on the pavilion so might be better cut in lighter material. Of coarse you could just try flipping it making the pavilion the crown. leave all the crown (now pavilion) facets meet at a point without cutting a table. Or just really crank the pavilion angle down. It is a nice design.
I have done "Rockhound" which is a hound dog, the design was made with the pattern on the crown, I did that and reversed it on another stone, both came out well.
Have a go at Andrew's Elephant, woo hoo that is a real tricky one.

Hadn't thought of flipping the pavilion for the crown, yes, would have to avoid the sharp point at the 'top' that would be easily damaged in jewellery usage.
Where is the "Rockhound" design from?

Here you go, this is Ryans design, if you want to cut it just give him a shout, he was quite happy to send it to me.

And another frosted design.
"Butterfly Effect"
15.6mm square
21.8ct
very light coloured smoky quartz
bottom wings slightly overcut - actually it's an exact copy of a rare butterfly only found sitting on cushion plants located on isolated peaks on the West Coast of Tasmania.

Nice job RC! No judgement on the overcuts, I think we've all been there! Just for your info, I'm operational again with a $35 speed controller ordered over ebay. No reversing switch at the moment but one on the way. Finished my first stone yesterday after a hiatus of 16 months.
Common sense isn't exactly common

Good to hear you're back cutting again. Sometimes a little break means you come back with an extra keen attitude. The next step for me machine-wise is to finally install my 12V replacement motor and PWM speed controller I have had sitting on my shelf. Your solution looks pretty neat I must say.

Smoky quartz from Gladstone Tasmania cut in a design by Andrew Brown called 'Glitter Bar' (Volume 4).
13.5ct
20mm x 10mm x 9mm
This is an opposed bar style cut, the result has very good performance, even along the long-axis. It has 6 keel facets, which is a little unusual, often there is an odd number. I like the little sets of edge facets on the short ends of the crown, gives a nice finish.
