Gee that lightened a lot. I prefer the light one.
The light one is definitely better, but I would have preferred that it hadn't gone almost clear. Crown frosting seems to operate the best in a fairly narrow band of colour saturation in smoky at least, the trick is to select the best piece of rough for the job it seems.

This is a variant of Diamond Bar 3:1 from Volume 5 with modified crown using increased angles generated by GemCutStudio to ease with cutting. I test-cut the crown a number of times using this stone to get the spacing correct for the diamonds/squares. I have shaped a nice piece of topaz into a preform to try Diamond Bar 4:1 with the standard crown angles now that I think I can cut it OK.
This is a really good design, highly recommended to give it a try - in fact it could be my new ABFacetDesigns favourite. Have got some good feedback on it already.

Very unusual looking stone, seems to give off light no matter which way it's turned.

Thanks,
my approach for this stone, and my next attempt will be to cut the crown first. I will have my preform at 4.1 or 4.2 to 1 to start with rather than 4:1, this will mean I can cut G2 as the last tier to prevent any possible distortion in the squares. So for the 4:1 version the plan is to cut G1, T, C4, C3, C2, C1, G2 in this order.
Then transfer and cut the easy-peasy pavilion.

Yes, that's the attraction, it really performs along the full length as its tilted. The long shape is pretty nice for a change too.
