Howdy from Texas
« on: August 24, 2023, 01:47:59 AM »
Hoping to get my gear back up and running soon. Been away from faceting almost 25 years.

One thing I was wondering, does this Forum have a classifieds or For Sale thread?

Thanx

Gday Lucky

For sale notices need 25 posts before they're OK, it used to be open but of coarse someone abused that. It might be a battle to get 25 posts, it's been real quiet here recently.
Anyway post some photos of your work and equipment, ask questions, I will chat with you and a bit of activity will probably get some others chatting as well. It's winter here, a lot of us head off fossicking in winter so it does get quiet.

Hi 1 Lucky Texan,
Welcome to ALF.
Great people here and lots of past posts on everything rock and rock-like.
Lapidary, fossicking, faceting, etc.
My particular interest is faceting.   What machine are you using?   I have a Hall X-tra. its a bit like the USA Tom-thumb.   Both were designed by Laurie Hall in Qld after he retired from manufacturing.
Cheers

Thanx rusted, I would likely be a buyer way before a seller but certainly understand the policy.

I don't have pics of past work but may try to post some later. As said, kinda waiting on clearing away dome space to get the 'shop' up and running. (more of a corner in a spare bedroom.)

Using an UltraTec (dial indicator) , probably have to buy a drive cone, they can plat-spot in nit used regularly. I Have used a Facetron and an old Taylor to which I attached a dial indicator in the past.

I mess about with a little jewelry making but, mostly want to get back to cutting.

I also have a Hall xtra, I love it. I also have a Drabsch which is a quadrant machine, built like an aircraft carrier and almost as heavy, undoubtedly accurate but I still prefer the Hall.
