Glen Innes, Mud maps and private property
« on: March 04, 2024, 06:36:48 PM »
Hi All,
We are heading to Glen innes for Minerama but have missed out on the field trips we wanted particularly Pretty Gully. Does anyone have a contact number for private property fossicking or any mud maps to other areas..

Sorry Leah that you missed out on the field trips. Have only been once since they made the trip bookings only online.
Preferred to line up on the day and pay for a trip.
Here is a link to fossicking locations https://gleninneshighlands.com/files/fossicking-brochure-for-website.pdf
and https://www.bullockmountainhomestead.com/
and http://aussiesapphire.com/html/map2.html
and http://aussiesapphire.com/html/map1.html
and http://aussiesapphire.com/html/map3.html

If you go into a state forest to fossick you will also need a fossicking permit from https://www.forestrycorporation.com.au/visit/activities/fossicking

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

Thanks Jerry. Yes we preferred it that way too. Thanks for the link. We have scoured those spots over the last few years with a bit of success. Was hoping for some local knowledge

Go to tourist info at Glen Innes, they are very helpful and have lots of mud maps.

Hi Leah - You might like to check out my blogs too. I've been a bit slack the last few years but recently I've started adding to my New England blog.
Links here:

https://johnsnewenglandminerals.blogspot.com/2013/12/list-of-all-blog-entries-to-date.html   New England Minerals/Geology

https://johnsbluemountainsblog.blogspot.com/2013/12/links-to-all-blog-entries-and-relevant.html      Blue Mountains Walks

I can't remember how to add links from my list to take you to the actual blog but that will all come back soon (I hope).
I regularly get requests like yours, Leah. It's 11 years since Sue and I stopped our Wednesday fossicking outings and moved to Lithgow.
Hope this helps you.

Hi Leah,

Re Pretty Valley etc - they are private property and very hard to get on, especially with public liability but now much harder due to much tougher bio-security laws.

I also know that the organisers of Minerama always expressly ask that the owners not be approached because they've often been inundated by people before and after events and it really annoys them - to the degree that Minerama have struggled to get sites in recent years!

It is frustrating just doing the public places, it would always be great to be able to get on to private property!
