The Next Big Trip

Six weeks to go for the start of the next big trip. Missed last year due to life and other matters getting in the way. Myself and the young bloke will be wheels up and heading north for 4-5 weeks. First stop Bundaberg and Innes Beach for some volcanic rock and fossilised coral. Next stop Mt Hay. Quick stop at Groper Creek for a fish, then Innisfail and heading west. Big stop at Agate Creek then the real adventure begins. Finally 40 years too late, heading to the Gulf. Young bloke wants a barra as big as him. That's be one hell of a fish. then we turn south. Cloncurry is the target, with day trips to Quamby, Mary Kathleen, Kuridala. Fullerton River and (hopefully) Wee McGregor. We should fill a few buckets (again, I hope). After a stop at Richmond and Hughenden its a tour of the opal fields and home. Biggest trip we've done. Many rocks to find. With  focus on Cloncurry, anyone wishing (willing) to sell or share a copy of Cloncurry Trails, please let me know.

If you're doing all that in 4-5 weeks I think it's going to be one hell of a rush!
I planning to leave Melbourne head north to Tocumwal, pick up a M8 there then up
 to Mt Hope then up through Tingha,Inverell then up to Rubyvale, Emerald, Sapphire, across to Hughenden,Cloncurry then up to O'briens Crk, Agate Crk across to Mud Tank down to Uluru, Coober Pedy then to Flinder Ranges and back to Melbourne and I'm planning 4-6 months.

That will be a interesting trip Barry. I am just hoping to get back to Agate Ck next year as it will be 4 years since I last could visit.  Seems the grass has been really growing well this season.

That's as long as the chain will stretch sadly. Some things will be short and sharp but others will be long and luxurious. Mostly a rock hunt with day trips and sightseeing. I've been to most places but never really stopped to look. The lad is also hoping to catch a barra somewhere along the way. we'll see. Three weeks and counting...

ONE WEEK TO GO UNTIL WE LEAVE. HAVE ADDED A FEW MORE STOPS and an extra week onto the trip, god i hope the fish are biting and the fuel prices drop a bit.

Good luck with the trip Barry. We stopped in there for a few days 6 years ago, absolutely loved it! Even my wife enjoyed the area. If you can budget in a side trip to Cobbold Gorge, it is worth it and only just up the road from the gemfields. We stopped at Cloncurry as well, it's a good base for exploring the area. Unfortunately, I wouldn't hold my breath on the fuel prices though, they are what they are I suppose. We loved that entire area, from Lightning Ridge to Cape York, with a special mention to Charlieville.
