Internet provider won't let me access this forum
« on: September 30, 2024, 12:27:29 PM »
I have been a member of this forum for around 12 years and think it's a great place. But I changed my internet satellite service provider to starlink. Your forum will not let me in with starlink. On my mobile in Maitland using data, however, and I can access the forum just fine. Is there a reason why this affects anything? I have carvings and rough gems to share but it seems to be getting in the too hard basket to bother. Trouble is Facebook is killing most of these groups and I hope it won't happen here.

Hi mick B, just google starlink problems and got a lot of hits.   :( Did not look through items but this or another link might help you ask and get a good result. https://www.starlinkcommunityforums.com/forum

Hi Mick,
Had a  problem with a user on Starlink being blocked on ALF a year or so ago. It was caused by their IP address being accidentally included in a range of addresses used by the Spam Filter employed on ALF, and was not easy to isolate the cause at the time.
Think I have removed the offending block, let me know if all is OK now.
Please DM (direct message) me in future with any problems like this.
Don't worry, ALF's not going anywhere in this lifetime. Might be a bit slow here at times, but so is cutting stones.

I'm on Starlink and had the same issue it was saying I'd been permanently banned, I thought the forum had died or something but finally I'm back and able to see everything again.

Today is the first time I have been able to see this forum home page since Sep 10. I would get a message something like "Your banned from using this forum". Have been on a cruise and using the ships Wi Fi. Now in Australian waters it has started working.

Some websites won't allow visits from users outside that country. I've had that experience with a couple of different overseas sites from here. That may explain your issue Frank. It sounds like RC may be on to it anyway, hopefully it's sorted Mick, I love seeing your carvings.

I've had this issue in the past. If the ban happens again delete all the ALF cookies/saved files. Refresh you browser and hopefully that fixes it.

Thanks for help with this problem. Yes it said I was banned but now working good again. I prefer lapidary forums. This one and the US one I use are very good. Now I can post some pet rocks.

I think all Starlink users may have been accidentally blocked for a while. The boat was obviously using Starlink service offshore.
Will try and keep a closer eye on it from now on.

For anyone reading this - in future please email info at aussielapidaryforum.com for ban issues etc, or use the contact link in the top menu (if you can get on by some means!).
