Fossicking trip

Fellow rock hounds, I am off on my annual trip north in May, hopefully the rains have stopped by then and freshing picking are at hand.  I travelling to Forsayth  and staying at a mate place there heading down to Agate Creek, then mid June down to Lightning Ridge to a mates Opal lease for some specking.  In between I am thinking of heading to Quamby, just wondering if it is worth the trip as I have been told different stories about the place, first is the chevron amethyst has been dug out, the other that the quartz is there but in large seams, is this correct.  Also can anybody tell me if there is a good area for amethyst crystal, northern NSW or QLD.

You have already name the best place in Qld.  NSW has only bits of places with lots of searching and digging.
I should be at Agate Ck by the start of May unless unless my Pajero has to try and swim there.

Hey Tinker.
Did Quamby last year for little in finds. maybe someone can pinpoint. found the roadside spot but it had been picked over well and truly. Agate Creek is a mission at the moment. The Caravan Park is posting pics of the river crossing every few days and it ain't pretty. but once she's down, the specking in the creeks will be spectacular. Lotsa luck
