A great read and very well written Jason;  I felt like I was there and shared your experience.  8) ;)  Can't wait to see the pics!   ;D
Perhaps an edited version should be considered for Australian Gold Gem and treasure?   ::)

Well some piccies as promised ..
Yet to do some of our haul ... but lets say it includes a water worn smokey thats probably just shy of 1kg :)

Yup in the right place ... :)

The main camp kitchen ...

Inside kitchen

Another of the cabins with the "lantern" ;)

A

So this is the main road in past the forestry camp, not too bad going ... until Rorys rd

But all worthwhile to get to ..

Ewingar Creek ... photo not too great .. but I put camera down to get stuck into the fossicking :)

So this is one of the Pegmatites .. I think :)
Took all of 30 seconds to find as someone else already did the hard work.
I had a quick dig around but realised picking up crystals out of the stream was easier than finding them in the creek banks :)

beers Cams7... Yes that sounds like him... nice old guy, lived in the 'camp kitchen' and tried to collect fees for staying there.(grog money I presume) Lol He was ok in the morning but a nightmare at night... He used to wake us up at 3am and tell us our time was up and we must leave .. Funny thing was, he was naked when he woke us up  ???... and in winter too Lol brrr

Thank goodness I didn't meet him ... :)

Luckily most of us here are nice people .. Im sure if he woke the wrong person at 3am, in the nude, especially a family with kids, he could have been in a great deal of trouble out there where it is so remote.

Some people wouldn't even consider things like that, things probably beyond his control or understanding, before reacting with serious violence. Regardless of age, or by the sounds of it, a degree of dementia ...

Hope hes ok .. or at least under someones care or families watch.

:D Yes guys not a thing for a family to see that's for sure.... If you yelled at him he would take himself off and go back to bed ::), but the wrong person  who knows..... A Forestry Worker told me he worked for them years ago, and he had no family, so they let him stay on... Sometimes when we went up there, he wasn't there, and the place looked like he hasn't been there for quite some time... Then other times he was there 'Patrolling Ewingar'....  :D The worker I spoke to said he was going into a Home and he will be looked after..... That was about 6 months ago...... God Bless Him  ;)

Forestry have now taken down the main hut (shame) and the water tank (regrettably), but a small hut (out of 3 that used to be there) was left with a fireplace, and a dunny. 20 years ago the place was infested by Yowies. They would come around at night, pinch all the food out of your esky and drink your beer. Back in 1905 the gold was sluiced at Rae's Point on the Creek. That is where most of the smokey quartz is also

Thanks for the good detail - I'd hoped to go there last October but the bushfires started!

Looking forward to some pictures of what you got.

So it was generally fine for kids around 10 & 12 to speck around?

Many leeches in the creek or mainly in the bush?

Cheers
